Course Curriculum
This Pediatric CCRN Review Course covers all of the fundamental topics expected to be encountered on the Pediatric CCRN Exam and follows the 2019-2020 Pediatric CCRN Test Plan. The goal of the program is to enhance the Registered Nurse's knowledge and skills necessary to meet the needs and care for the critically pediatric ill patient. Upon completion of the program the registered nurse will have the tools necessary to successfully pass the Pediatric CCRN Exam.
Module 1 - Cardiovascular This module discusses basic cardiovascular anatomy and physiology and disease processes affecting the cardiovascular system. The registered nurse will be able to identify, treat, and care for the pediatric patient with acute cardiovascular disease. Topics covered include cardiomyopathies, dysrhythmias, and structural heart defects.
Module 2 - Pulmonary This module discusses basic pulmonary anatomy and physiology and disease processes affecting the pulmonary system. The registered nurse will be able to identify, treat, and care for the pediatric patient with acute pulmonary disease. Topics covered include acute pulmonary embolus, status asthmaticus, thoracic surgery, and tracheal malacia.
Module 3 - Endocrine This module discusses the various functions and disease pathophysiology affecting the endocrine system. Topics include assessment and treatment modalities associated with conditions such as acute hypoglycemia, diabetes insipidus, diabetic ketoacidosis, and Syndrome of Inappropriate Antidiuretic Hormone (SIADH).
Module 4 - Hematology and Immunology This module reviews various Hematologic Disorders and Immunologic Disorders commonly encountered in the acute care/critical care setting. The Registered Nurse will learn how to identify, treat, and manage patients with diseases such as coagulopathies (ITP, DIC, HIT), sickle cell crisis, and thrombocytopenia.
Module 5 - Gastrointestinal System This module discusses various diseases that affect the Gastrointestinal System. Topics include acute abdominal trauma, acute GI hemorrhage, and bowel obstruction. The Registered Nurse will be able to identify complications associated with these diseases and appropriate interventions.
Module 6 - Renal System This module discusses the various functions and diseases affecting the renal system. Topics include causes and treatment for acute kidney injury, acute tubular necrosis, kidney infections, and life threatening electrolyte imbalances.
Module 7 - Integumentary This module discusses diseases affecting the integumentary system. Topics include pressure ulcers, skin infections, surgical wounds, and wounds sustained from trauma.
Module 8 - Musculoskeletal, Neurological, and Psychosocial This module discusses neurological assessment and various diseases that affect the neurologic system, musculoskeletal disease and assessment, and psychosocial implications of pediatric critical care nursing. Topics covered include acute spinal cord injury, head trauma, and developmental delays.
Module 9 - Professional Caring and Ethical Practice This module covers professional caring and ethical practice in pediatric critical care nursing. Topics include advocacy, caring practices, diversity, collaboration, and facilitation of learning.
